Reading remains at the core of our curriculum throughout the day at La Fontaine. We take a whole-class approach to reading as this ensures that all of our children are exposed to high-quality texts that are rich in vocabulary and model some of the best writing styles in the English language. Our literary canon has been carefully designed to expose our children to a range of text and genres, as well as stories and authors from across the globe. Each day, in addition to the texts studied as a class, the teachers will read to their children to foster their love of reading and of storytelling.
Please explore our literary canon to see the wide-range of high quality texts that we are using with the children:
- Primary texts are those used in the English sessions and are explored in depth, they are also used as inspiration for writing and link to our humanities curriculum;
- Secondary texts are used by class teachers to read to the children to simply listen to and enjoy!
