La Fontaine’s high-quality RE curriculum exposes learners to different religions and cultures as well as wider world views.

At La Fontaine, we believe RE is an important subject in itself, as it develops an individual’s knowledge and understanding of the religions and beliefs which form part of contemporary society.  RE also contributes to pupils’ personal development and well-being and to community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society. Through guided conversation, pupils are able to see and articulate similarities and differences across religions and world views. Our learners are respectfully offered opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development, deepening the understanding of the significance of religion in the lives of others – individually, communally and cross-culturally.

The UK has a rich heritage of culture and diversity; this is continuing today in an era of globalisation and an increasingly interdependent world. Religion and belief for many people forms a crucial part of their culture and identity so we therefore would like our learners to have a deep understanding of their own culture and identity, as well as of those around them.

By being exposed to different religions and cultures in our RE lessons, our children are able to engage and ask questions in a safe environment. We also weave through the importance of respect for all, even if views may differ. Our learners leave La Fontaine Academy, with an understanding and respect for our diverse society and the people who live there.
